There was a time when people used to make fun of bearded man calling them savage, uncultured and wild. But time has changed now and so does the opinion of people. According to official studies, bearded men are more attractive than beardless men.
Muslim men grow beard to follow the traditions (Sunnah) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and to fulfill their religious obligation. Mockers and jesters have long pointed against Muslims on this very fact. However, beard is common to every religion and a number of Non-Muslims also grow it.
This study found that the men who grow beard looks strong, macho and more handsome to the women. The study further adds that men with beard look most trustworthy and serious than a beardless man. Most of the people think that clean shave men are not trust worthy. They can cheat and can deceive.
The study further concludes that if we talk about bearded men, they do not flirt with women and hardly deceive people. They are more acceptable in society and are considered as mature. They prefer to marry rather than wasting their time in stupid affairs. They are trust worthy, caring, loving and don’t cheat their partners.
This is a study in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology, which asked 8,500 women to rate men with and without beards for their potential as a partner.
The men were photographed clean-shaven, five days after shaving, 10 days after shaving, and then four weeks after shaving.
Surprisingly, most of them selected the last option. Heavy stubble had the highest ratings for general attractiveness, followed by full beards and light stubble.
Researchers said that typically male features, such as a strong jawline, signal health and high testosterone levels, which may not be what women are looking for in a long-term partner.Whereas we associate beards with a man’s age and masculine social dominance.
The study has a theory as to why: Beards may be more attractive to women when considering long-term than short-term relationships as they indicate a male’s ability to successfully compete socially with other males for resources.
There are many other benefits of beard as are listed below:
A beard can protect your face from the sun’s damaging rays
A beard can keep you warm in winter
A beard can ward off throat disease
A beard can assist those with asthma
A beard can reduce the chances of bacterial infection
Not shaving can clear up your schedule for more important things.
A beard can improve your sex life.
Most men feel more attractive with a beard.
In Islam, allowing the beard to grow and trimming the moustache is ruled as mandatory according to the Sunnah by scholarly consensus, and is considered part of the fitra (i.e., the way man was created).
Sahih Bukhari, Book 72, and Hadith #781 Narrated by Ibn ‘Umar: Allah’s Apostle said:
“Cut the moustaches short and leave the beard (as it is).”
Ibn Hazm reported that there was scholarly consensus that it is an obligation to trim the moustache and let the beard grow. He quoted a number of hadiths as evidence, including the hadith of Ibn ‘Umar quoted above, and the hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam in which Mohammed said:
“Whoever does not remove any of his moustache is not one of us.”
Ibn Hazm said: “This is the way of our colleagues”
Readers should bear in mind that handsomeness of men are purely subjective and opinion varies from person to person and this study is just a survey and conclusion based on observations.
It would be unwise to debate over whether a Man should keep beard or not just to attract women. However, growing beard is a Sunnah and a Muslim man should grow it irrespective of anyone’s opinion.
